or tie-back surgery
is recommended for
horses with an
upper-respiratory
condition that
produces gurgles,
rasps and wheezes
when exercised.
These individuals
have a restricted
flow of air, cutting
down on oxygen and
making them tire
easily. During
surgery the
arytenoid flap is
pulled into an
almost fully open
position and sutured
down.
