Some
smaller dogs with
severe hip pain can
be improved by
completely removing
the femoral head, or
ball, which
eliminates the hip
joint.
The result is a
shortened but
usually functional
leg that is
supported by the
muscles and
ligaments around the
hip. Dr. Dean does
not recommend this
procedure on any
animal other that
small (<45 lbs.)
sedentary pets.
Active pets or
working dogs are
much better off with
the new
total hip
replacement. |
