After receiving his
D.V.M. from Texas
A&M University in
1981, Dr. Dean
completed a one-year
internship and a
three-year medicine
and surgery
residency training
program at The Ohio
State University
under the
supervision of
ACVS
Diplomats. His
surgical training
and testing includes
all domestic animal
species. In fact,
he even has
experience with zoo
animal medicine as a
result of primary
and referred surgery
from the Columbus
Zoo.
Following
Board Certification,
Dr. Dean taught and
performed surgery at
Texas A&M University
for four years
before establishing
his own surgical
referral hospital in
1990 in the
Aubrey/Pilot Point
area. This
commitment to
training after
veterinary school
and successful
completion of Board
Certification in
1986 qualifies him
as a specialist in
veterinary surgery.
The American
College of
Veterinary Surgeons
changed the training
and testing
requirements for
board certification
recently. Before
2000, veterinary
surgeons were board
certified in all
species. After
1999, they obtained
either large animal
or small animal
specific
certification.
Veterinarians who
were board certified
prior to 1999 were
tested in all
aspects of
veterinary surgery,
but their training
may have
concentrated on
either large or
small animal. For
more information on
the American College
of Veterinary
Surgeons contact the
ACVS.
Because Mustang
Veterinary Surgical
is exclusively
surgery and related
support, Dr. Dean is
personally
responsible for all
phases or surgical
diagnosis and
treatment. |
